NOV 2020 – NEW UPDATE ON A TENNIS CLUB FOR NORTHOWRM

NOV 2020 – NEW UPDATE ON A TENNIS CLUB FOR NORTHOWRM

We have a brand new Tennis Club in Northowram, the courts at the top of the Hough have been leased from Calderdale and are due to be refurbished in December.

We have been attempting to transfer the courts (which haven’t been played on for 25 years) from the Council for the last 2 years and finally we have succeeded, we have raised £13,000 through small grants, donations and a race night and with a £45,000 Sport England Grant just approved and a £10,000 Suez Refuse Grant we are be able to refurbish the courts and add floodlights.

Our aim is to provide tennis facilities for everyone no matter how good or not so good you are, coaching will take place and schools will be encouraged to use the facilities along with other groups for different activities.

Hopefully in the next few weeks the weather will allow the contractors to begin the job of transforming the courts from a disused area into a centre for all to use.

PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED INFORMATION……reads as follows.
We have a brand new Tennis Club in Northowram but still no place to play as the disused tennis courts at the top of the Hough have still not been leased from Calderdale Council to our new Club. We have been attempting to transfer the courts (which haven’t been played on for 25 years) from the Council for the last 2 years and finally we are getting very close, we have raised £13,000 through small grants, donations and a race night and with a £30,000 Sport England Grant just approved, we are over halfway to our target to be able to refurbish the courts and add floodlights. Our aim is to provide tennis facilities for everyone no matter how good or not so good you are, coaching will take place and schools will be encouraged to use the facilities along with other groups for different activities. Hopefully in the next few weeks and months planning permission will allow the contractors to begin the job of transforming the courts from a disused area into a centre for all to use.
